Dreaming of You

Maybe this is all part of my subconscious, hearing the term "lucid" on Grey's Anatomy, seeing that What Dreams May Come was on TV, being in a daze still from Down in the Valley and listening to the soundtrack--maybe all of this combined made me seek out a person in the dream world.

He was like a hologram. Maybe dead, and just a spirit. Like in The Illusionist. No one could touch him, they would all pass through him. I felt very strong emotions, because he seemed sad. I was overcome with compassion and sadness and I wanted to stroke his arm. So I reached out and suddenly he was real, and I could feel him, and more importantly he could feel me. He was surprised and relieved, happy perhaps. It was such an intense feeling. It was like magic.

When I woke up I thought, maybe I actually contacted him through the dream world, because it was ridiculously intense and so real. Crazy.

The other night I had a dream I was going to suffocate in this basement-like place. Right when I was about to die, I woke up. So this morning I was thinking about that, and wondered why you always wake up right before you die. Then I thought, what if when we die, it's really like another awakening on a different level? Like if we die in a dream we wake up at that instant, so maybe when we die in real life we awaken to the next level of consciousness or awareness, or whatever else is out there.

To die--to sleep--
To sleep? perchance, to dream. Ay, there's the rub;
For in that sleep of Death what dreams may come,
When we have shuffled off this mortal coil,
Must give us pause.
